  • Preparing and lodging applications with the Department of Home Affairs, skills assessing bodies, and other government agencies.

6. Data Storage and Use

To provide our services efficiently and effectively, we use our own dedicated LPO support team operated by a company under common ownership with Australian Migration Lawyers. Where Australian Migration Lawyers uses LPO support staff in Australia and overseas, Australian Migration Lawyers maintains compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles, adherence to appropriate data security, IT, and confidentiality protocols, and limits the use of data to the provision of support services to Australian Migration Lawyers.

Additionally, we use secure, reputable third-party service providers for data storage and internal operations, such as Google Workspace. These providers are global leaders in security and are subject to their own stringent privacy and security obligations. While their servers may be located in various countries, we take reasonable steps to ensure that they have appropriate safeguards in place to protect your information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

7. Data Security and Retention

(a) Security

We take the security of your information very seriously. We use a range of technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. These measures include:

  • Multi-factor authentication and strict access controls on all systems.
  • Regular staff training on privacy and data security obligations.
  • Using secure, reputable cloud service providers for data storage.

(b) Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as is necessary to provide you with legal services. In accordance with our professional obligations, we are required to keep your file for a minimum of 7 years after your matter is finalised. After this period, your file and the personal information it contains will be securely and permanently destroyed.

You have a right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to request its correction if you believe it is inaccurate, out-of-date, or incomplete.

10. How to Make a Complaint

If you believe we have breached your privacy, please contact our Privacy Officer with a written complaint. We will investigate the matter and respond to you within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on our website. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new policy.
