Walt Calis is a dedicated and empathetic Australian immigration lawyer with a unique personal connection to the migration journey. Originally from the Netherlands, Walt completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a double master's degree in International law at the University of Amsterdam. His own experience migrating to Australia through the Partner visa program deeply influenced his decision to specialise in immigration law—transforming a personal milestone into a professional calling.
After settling in Australia, Walt requalified as a solicitor by completing the Priestly 11 units at Deakin University, followed by his practical legal training at the College of Law.
Walt has successfully represented numerous clients in matters before the Administrative Review Tribunal, maintaining a very high success rate in merit review hearings—a testament to his meticulous preparation and effective advocacy.
Before entering the legal profession in Australia, Walt built a decade-long career in leadership roles across banking and health insurance, where he developed a client-focused approach and refined his communication and organisational skills—attributes he now brings to every case he handles.
Fluent in both Dutch and English, Walt is known not only for his legal acumen but also for his ability to put clients at ease. He is deeply committed to treating every client with respect, empathy, and transparency. His clients frequently praise his professionalism, responsiveness, and supportive nature through their migration journey.
Beyond his legal work, Walt fosters rescue dogs through Starting Over Dog Rescue, a Melbourne-based charity, and enjoys playing electric guitar in his spare time.
For Walt, nothing is more rewarding than delivering the news of a successful migration journey—a moment that continues to echo his own journey and fuels his passion for helping others find their place in Australia.
